We enjoyed our first CCS kindergarten Thanksgiving feast
this past Friday. The feast was opened with a short program where the
kindergartners sang songs and recited verses. Then Isaac joined us to eat lunch
with us--turkey and mashed potatoes and all the other T-giving fixin's. It was a treat to eat as a family during the school day. Paul even got
to come thanks to a colleague who covered his class for him (thanks, Janet!).
We had the option of having our children dress in pilgrim
or Native American costumes. As you can see, we chose to go with the modern-day pilgrim look
for Isaac. He had made both a pilgrim hat and a Native American headdress in class and chose
to wear the feathers for the feast. (I love that his
feathers look more like dog’s ears…what a cutie-patootie!)
While most of the kids did the actions to the songs with big motions, Isaac managed to keep his hands moving right in the area of his belly. I don't think he wanted to stand out any more than he already felt being in the back row on the outer edge. He looked a little nervous. (He is supposed to recite scripture with a few of his classmates at the start of our Thanksgiving worship service this week; I am hoping he will open his mouth and say the words to help call us to worship.)
If you look closely at his headdress, you can see the word "Navy" on it. When we asked him about it, he said, "Nathan put it on his and said it was our country so I did it too." It took a little convincing on our part to get him to realize that the Navy is one part of our armed forces. We love that he listens less to us and more to his peers already and actually believes that they do more than us. Uff-da, we have a long road ahead of us. :-)
The feast was a great lead-in to our Thanksgiving vacation that is this coming week for Isaac and Paul. I am looking forward to being home with everyone (once Paul is done with convention, that is) and having Jill and Mark and the girls here for Thanksgiving. I am thankful for the gift of my boys (all three of them). God is good...all the time!
