Isaac finished his first quarter of kindergarten a couple weeks ago. He brought home a great report card--all S's for satisfactory and a few P's for praiseworthy. He also got "no helps" for his memory work for each week of the quarter so we went to Chuck E. Cheese as his reward.
Some of the highlights on his report card were all "P's" in music and Spanish classes and a "P" for coloring (who knew there was a spot for this on a report card?!?), respecting authority (thankfully!), working neatly and orderly and taking time to produce quality work (those last ones are part of his perfectionistic tendencies if you ask me). He still comes home excited about school and what happened that day and has a hard time picking his favorite thing of the day since it is all great.
We also went to our first parent-teacher conference being on the parent side of the table. I really enjoyed doing that. We love Isaac's teacher and are so thankful for the care she shows Isaac and how well she knows him. I was relieved when the first words out of her mouth were something along the lines of her not knowing how we would fill the 15 minute time slot since Isaac is just perfect. Well, he is definitely not that, but it is nice to know that he is thriving in school and behaving. (And I am thankful we did not have to interpret the "teacherisms" used to nicely say that your child is a handful at times!)
One thing he worked hard at accomplishing this quarter was winning a Smart Cookie in music class. His music teacher does a fabulous job teaching the kids notes and musical symbols. To reinforce this, they play all around the world with music flashcards. If a student can beat 14 other students, he or she wins a Smart Cookie; after winning four Smart Cookies, that student wins a Pizza Cookie (which Isaac has informed us is very big!). Isaac finally won his first Smart Cookie a couple weeks ago and proceeded to win another one the next time he had class. He is looking ahead to the Pizza Cookie--when he wins that, we will post a picture since I forgot to get a pix of him with his Smart Cookies.
