Walk-a-thon

CCS had its first walk-a-thon the afternoon of Grandparents Day. A few weeks before the walk-a-thon, Isaac called all grandparents to see if they would sponsor him in the walk-a-thon--either a flat rate or an amount per lap. His class walked for the Red Cross tornado relief efforts, not an easy mouthful when explaining his cause to everyone, but he managed to speak animatedly every time he asked someone for money. Once he got his sponsors, he was anxious for the day of the walk-a-thon.

Isaac took off running as soon as Mr. Kok yelled, "Go!" He ran the entire first lap and looked like this as he got his card for lap one marked off:
It was a warm day...
Vicki decided to walk with him on lap two; however, Isaac was determined to run. I think Vicki chased after him for a couple laps, and I give her credit for keeping up with him in her non-tennis shoes! Eventually, we convinced him to slow down for a lap so we could all walk it with him (Paul, Caleb, Dad, Vicki, and me). As you can see, this was not something about which he was totally convinced:
C'mon, Dad, let's go!
Giving Mr. Kok a high-five
When deciding whether to sponsor by the lap or a set amount, our parents asked us how many laps we thought Isaac would realistically walk, and we figured he would do four or six times around the track within the hour of the walk. He ended up walking, though mostly running, 15 times around the track! Very impressive!
Isaac's scorecard with his 15 tallied laps
Caleb walked around with us a couple times and then decided to also run as many as he possibly could; he ended up running/walking seven laps around as well. (We gave him money to put into his church bank offering which got him pretty excited.)

I don't remember how many laps we all walked as a family, but it was a great way to wrap up the Grandparents Day festivities! Next year I will wear tennis shoes.
